Studying culture, society, and politics may help an individual understand and make sense of one's life, for these are some of the factors that affect it. Understanding our culture exposes us to the things that made us who we are today, and gives an individual a sense of identity that makes him/her unique from others. Similarly, studying society helps an individual understand how the environment he/she belongs to functions as a whole and how it may affect the lives of its people. By understanding how a society functions, an individual may come up with better ways of improving one's manners of living. Lastly, an appreciation of politics will help an individual think on his/her own. Political ignorance makes one vulnerable to deception and endangers one's liberty. An individual must exercise his/her political power as one's duty as a citizen and a member of society.
