We welcome you to Social Dynamics, A Senior High School Worktext on Understanding Culture, Society, and Politics (Second Edition), a learning resource designed to provide student-centered and performance-based learning opportunities to both learners and educators. It aims to invite young people to explore the social world that we are part of and lead the students to develop a theoretical understanding of current social issues we are facing amidst globalization and a vulnerable, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world. The worktext offers features that will help learners optimize their learning experiences. The multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches have been employed in the discussion of the various disciplines of social science, such as sociology, political science, anthropology, and economics. Each chapter begins with learning targets aligned with the K to 12 Senior High School curriculum for Understanding Culture, Society, and Politics. Key terms and concepts are also explained to prepare the learners and educators for the essential ideas that will be tackled in each chapter. Each lesson starts with Leveling off, which signals and introduces students to the topic to be examined. This is followed by Taking Off, the phase where discussion and analysis of critical content and ideas are presented. Formative and summative exercises are provided in between discussions to asses the student's understanding of the lesson. We hope that this worktext will help broaden the sociological horizon of the learners min an analyzing the social phenomena in their everyday lives. In the same manner, we encourage the learners to explore other relevant learning materials that would ultimately expand their knowledge of culture, society, and politics. above all, we aspire that after achieving the learning targets presented in this book, learners who have been exposed to social analyses will be the catalysts of sound social change and lead the Filipino society to progressive social landscapes. |
